Frankie’s previous owner had passed away and she was obviously suffering from an
undiagnosed condition. Turns out, this sweet mare had Cushing’s disease, which is most
commonly demonstrated through increased coat length and delayed shedding of the winter coat, which then leads to sweating and weight loss. It is quite common among older horses who have laminitis. Frankie was deeply loved and appropriately handled as her time grew near. We miss her dearly. We’re indebted to our friends at Western Montana Equine, who always steer us in the right direction when it comes to veterinary needs.
